Batch/Serial # Sequencing
Our manufacturing company participates in quite a few trade shows and events, necessitating inventory transfers to move product out of our physical warehouse and into 'trade show warehouses' (to keep Dear from trying to pick that absent inventory when fulfilling sales orders). Once we return from the show/event, we transfer the inventory back into our main warehouse. What I've noticed, however, is that even though the product was never removed from the Dear system, upon transferring, the product Batch/Serial #s do not get entered back into our main warehouse in the order in which they were originally created. In other words, we are no longer picking on a First-In-First-Out basis, because the system treats the older Batch # (which was returned back into inventory) as the newer product. I would like to see the system have the capability to return the transferred inventory back into a warehouse location in the original order in which that product was produced/originally brought into inventory. This is also a problem as it pertains to Returned Goods and transfers between physical warehouse locations. The FIFO inventory method is compromised because there is no way to ensure that the older product goes back into inventory in the order in which it was created.
