Product Deals


In the previous article, Product Discounts, adding discounts to individual products was discussed. Product Deals can be used to apply or combine discounts at the shopping cart level for your customers, for example if the customer's shopping cart has met a certain criteria, such as including certain products or brands, or meeting a certain order amount.


These deals will not be visible to your customers in the DEAR B2B portal until after they have added enough products to their order to meet the criteria. For this reason, we recommend advertising your discounts using Group of Banners or Carousel

Creating Cart-level Deals

Before creating a cart-level deal, you must have already created a product discount template to use for it. More than one discount can be added to each deal.


For example, if you want to create a cart-level discount that gives a customer 20% off their order, you must first make a product discount template for 20% off. Cart-level deals can only use Simple discounts.



To create a deal (these steps are the same for all deals):

  1. First, make the product discount template for your deal

  2. Navigate to Settings -> Reference Books -> Stock -> Product Deals

  3. Enter a Deal Name - this is an internal reference for you to keep track of your deals

  4. Enter Effective To and Effective From dates for your deal (optional)

  5. Check the Active Deal box (uncheck to make inactive, but still available to use at a later date)

  6. Choose which Customer Type to apply the deal to. You can choose:

    • By Customer Type - choose customer type such as B2B only, POS only,  or All Customers from the dropdown menu

    • By individual Customer - choose Selected and then type/search to add customers

    • By Customer Tags - choose With Tags… (you must first have created Customer Tags and added them to Customers) and type/search to add customer tags.





Adding a simple discount to a deal

Simple deals that do not require a certain quantity of units to be bought can be applied here at the shopping cart level. More than one discount can be added to the deal by clicking Add discount.



To add a simple discount to a deal:

  1. Ensure the Order-level box is NOT checked. 

  2. Choose the product discount you wish to apply in the dropdown menu

  3. Select a Brand, Category, Tag or Product to apply the discount to and click Add. You can add as many as you like. 

  4. Click Save to complete the deal





Adding a quantity based discount to a deal

Any deal that requires one or more items to be added to the cart to be activated should be made here. More than one discount can be added to the deal.


DEAR’s Product Deal module offers a lot of flexibility in creating quantity based deals, they can be applied to individual products, any product in a brand/category or tag, need a certain order total, can be used to give a fixed free item, etc.



To add a quantity-based discount to a deal:

  1. Ensure the Order-level box is checked. 

  2. Choose the product discount you wish to apply in the dropdown menu

  3. Select the number of items required in the order for the deal to apply. In this case, as the deal is Buy 1 Get One Free, the number is 1. 

  4. Select the item criteria for Buy and Get and click Add

  5. Click Save to complete the Deal

DEAR allows the user a lot of flexibility in setting up deals. For inspiration, here are some common deal formats. Below are step by step instructions for common deals.

Free Shipping 

Order at least $X, get free shipping ( message will appear on customers B2B portal when free shipping order threshold is met )


Product deals

Buy one get one free

Buy one get something else free

Buy X or more and receive $X or % off the following units

Get $X or % off all items with a particular product tag

Get $X or % off all items in one or more categories 

Buy X units in (Category A), get Y additional units in the same category free 

Apply a $ or % discount to each item in one or more brands


Customer deals

Apply $X or X% discount for customer groups which can be B2B, POS or certain tagged customers

Apply $X or X% discount to individual customers 




Example - 3 for the price of 1

In this deal, for each item bought, 2 of the same item are free. 



To create this deal:

  1. Navigate to Settings -> Reference Books -> Stock -> Product Discounts

  2. Create a simple Product Discount for 100% off (free)


  1. Navigate to Settings -> Reference Books -> Stock -> Product Deals

  2. Choose the customers and dates to apply the deal to as outlined above

  3. Choose the Free product discount template from the dropdown menu

  4. Check the Order-level box

  5. Choose the items, brands, categories or tags to apply the deal to

  6. Enter 1 into the Buy field and 2 into the Get field

  7. Click Save to complete the deal 




Example - Free gift

In this deal a fixed free item is given to the customer when 3 or more units from a category have been added to the cart. The same free product discount template that was made in the previous example can be used here. 



To create this deal:

  1. Navigate to Settings -> Reference Books -> Stock -> Product Deals

  2. Choose the customers and dates to apply the deal to as outlined above

  3. Choose the Free product discount template from the dropdown menu

  4. Check the Order-level box

  5. Enter 3 into the Buy field and check the (or more) box

  6. Choose the category or categories to apply the deal to and click Add (in this case, Training Gear)

  7. Enter 1 into the Get field 

  8. Specify the free gift item by clicking Product and typing/searching for the item in your inventory, then clicking Add

  9. Click Save to complete the deal 



Example - 15% off orders over $80

In this deal, any customers with an order total of $80 or more get 10% off their entire order.



To create this deal:

  1. Navigate to Settings -> Reference Books -> Stock -> Product Discounts

  2. Create a simple Product Discount for 15% off

  1. Navigate to Settings -> Reference Books -> Stock -> Product Deals

  2. Choose the customers and dates to apply the deal to as outlined above

  3. Choose the 15% off product discount template from the dropdown menu

  4. Check the Order-level box

  5. Click order total for both Buy and Get

  6. Enter 80 into the Buy field and check the (or more) box

  7. Click Save to complete the deal

When your customer goes through checkout, they will see a discount line item showing how much their order was discounted.
