Stop Product Family VAT Rules Overwriting Individual Product VAT Rules

We have a lot of Product Families that contain products with a mixture of VAT rates. Currently if you make any changes to a Product Family it resets the VAT rate of the individual product to the Family VAT rate. This is extremely frustrating when you need to make small changes (such as the description or adding a tag) to a Product Family. 

Can Product Family VAT Rates be set-up in a similar way to Product Family Prices. So that you can choose to use the Family Rate or set them individually. 

When creating a Product Family, can the individual Product VAT Rates be set  

We only realised recently that if you have a Product Family containing Products with different VAT Rates (20% VAT and Zero Rate)
